Crowns and Bridges
Tooth loss and decay can happen due to a variety of reasons. Most of the time tooth decay is to blame for the damage caused to our teeth and most of the time is very hard to revert that damage. However, there are a few ways that crowns and bridges can help restore your smile!
This form of teeth replacement can not only help bring back functionality to your mouth, but also give you a beautiful set of teeth if you are looking for a least invasive procedure for teeth replacement that does not require implants.
Whether you are missing a couple or a few teeth, this treatment will use your existing teeth to give you back your smile. Porcelain is used for both crowns and bridges and it is a strong and long lasting material that will give you natural results. The procedure consist of two parts, your doctor will examine your mouth and take X-rays to look at the overall dental structure. A mold of your mouth will also be required in order to create the porcelain crowns and bridges that will match your natural teeth.
Crowns are “caps” that are fitted over your tooth. The dentist will first shave down your tooth so that the cap can fit over it. The crown is placed on either side of the gap, on teeth that act like anchors, which will hold the bridge or prosthetic tooth. Once shaven down, the crown is cemented onto your existing prepared tooth.
The bridge is the prosthetic tooth that fits into the gap where the missing tooth is. Held on either side by the crown, the bridge can hold one or a couple teeth that will nicely and very naturally return the beauty to your smile. Once the crowns and bridges are cemented onto your teeth, the results are a beautiful set of teeth!
The overall procedure is very simple and it requires a couple visits to the dentist as you wait for the bridges and crowns to be sent back from the laboratory where they have been custom created to fit your needs. If not treated, teeth loss can create more issues in the future as your teeth start moving and shifting into the spaces where the gaps are and would require additional treatments to fix.
