Restorative Dentisty Q & A

What is restorative dentistry?

As the name implies, restorative dentistry is designed to return both form and function to your teeth. While preserving your natural teeth is always the goal at Skyview Dentistry, tooth decay, gum disease, and trauma may have other plans, in which case your dentist comes up with the best option that will allow you to speak and chew normally while maintaining your great smile.

What options are offered under restorative dentistry?

The experienced dental team at Skyview Dentistry offers a host of restorative dentistry options, including:

Dentures

Dentures are an effective and affordable way of replacing missing teeth, and they come in both partial and full options, depending upon how many teeth you need to replace. Composed of durable plastic resin and sometimes porcelain, dentures are designed to look and feel much like your natural teeth.

Crowns and bridges

To protect an existing tooth or replace a tooth (or several teeth), crowns and bridges offer permanently bonded solutions that provide enough stability to chew and speak normally.

Root canal procedures

Root canal procedures are valuable treatments that preserve teeth with badly infected roots. When the live tissue in your root, called the pulp, is infected, it can cause considerable pain and threaten the entire tooth. With a root canal procedure, your infection is removed and your tooth is capped to preserve it.

Dental implants

While nothing beats Mother Nature, dental implants come very close, as they mimic your natural tooth, right down to its roots. With a dental implant, your dentist inserts a titanium post into your jawbone, which grows up around it to fuse it into place for superior stability. Once the implant has fused, the dentist places a crown over the post.

What is provisional restoration?

The team at Skyview Dentistry uses provisional restorations during complex restorative dental procedures to serve as temporary prosthetic replacements while you wait for a permanent restoration.

Provisional restorations allow you to try out the look and feel of the final prosthetic and make any necessary changes before the final fabrication and fitting. Unlike temporary prosthetics of the past, modern provisional restorations are highly functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Today’s temporaries are composed of a quality acrylic resin that mimics the look and feel of permanent metal or ceramic restorations.
